Who Is a Good Candidate for Same-Day Crowns?
Enough healthy tooth structure remains to hold the crown in place
For the crown to bond securely, you need at least two millimetres of healthy tooth structure. This means one-quarter of the visible portion of your affected tooth must be present.
No signs of gum disease or decay are present
A same-day crown may not be suitable if your tooth is significantly decayed or infected. It's because the crown must be securely bonded to a healthy tooth to remain secured.
You don't have a habit of grinding your teeth
Bruxism (teeth grinding) can damage the crown and weaken its bond. If you are habitually grinding your teeth, your dentist may recommend a more durable material for the crown or a special mouthguard to protect it.
You don't have large gaps between your teeth
While same-day crowns can help address minor gaps, they are unsuitable for more severe cases because the crowns may be too bulky and can affect your bite.
What You Need to Know About Same-Day Crowns
Quick, Single Visit Treatment
Same-day crowns are completed in one appointment, reducing the number of visits to the dentist. This efficient process allows you to leave with a new crown on the same day, reducing disruptions to your schedule.
Digital Impressions Used
Digital impressions are taken instead of traditional moulds. This technology captures precise teeth measurements, providing a better fit and a more comfortable experience. Digital impressions also speed up the overall process, providing quicker and more accurate results.
Advanced CEREC Technology
CEREC technology fabricates your crown on-site. This allows for immediate creation and placement, significantly reducing waiting time. The technology also achieves high precision and accuracy, improving the overall outcome and durability of the crown.
No Temporary Crowns Needed
With same-day crowns, there's no need for temporary crowns. This eliminates the discomfort and inconvenience often associated with traditional crown procedures. You can enjoy the benefits of a long-lasting crown without the hassle of temporary ones.
Common Dental Problems That
Same-Day Crowns Can Address
Cracked, Chipped, or Broken Teeth
Cracked, chipped, or broken teeth are not only unsightly, but they can also be painful. A same-day crown can help address these conditions by covering and protecting the damaged tooth to avoid further damage.
Decayed Teeth
Tooth decay results from poor oral hygiene and a sugary diet. It weakens the tooth, which can lead to a cavity. A same-day crown in West Perth can address large cavities and prevent further decay.
Stained and Discoloured Teeth
Certain factors cause teeth to lose their lustre, such as drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. Crowns can be matched to the colour of your natural teeth, giving you a bright and beautiful smile.
Severely Worn-Down Teeth
Worn-down teeth are often the result of bruxism and acid reflux. This can lead to pain and sensitivity. A same-day crown is used to cover the entire tooth and restore its function.

ABOUT Same-Day Crowns
Are same-day crowns as strong as regular crowns?
How are same-day crowns made?
CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) uses 3D imaging, a same-day ceramic crown machine, and CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing) to create dental crowns in a single visit. At your appointment, your dentist will prepare the teeth to be covered with a crown. They will also remove parts of your enamel to make room for the crown. This may take 50 to 90 minutes. Once your tooth is prepared, your dentist will take a digital impression or 3D image of it using a camera. This will be used to create a digital model of your tooth.
Your dentist will then choose the appropriate colour for your tooth. The computer will design the crown based on the digital model selected and the shade. Your crown will be milled from a solid block of ceramic. After milling, the crown will be checked for fit and bonded to your tooth using dental cement on the same day at the dental clinic. Creating your crown may take about 60 to 90 minutes, which means that same-day crowns can help you achieve a more beautiful smile in 2 to 3 hours.
What are the advantages of same-day crowns?
With same-day crowns, you don’t have to deal with temporary crowns. This means you don’t need to return for another dental appointment to have it fitted because it will be done in a single visit. This treatment is less invasive because it doesn’t require as much enamel to be removed. In addition, you can control the colour of your tooth since it will be milled from a solid block of ceramic. And in emergency dental situations, such as injuries at the workplace, this procedure can provide quick treatment. So, instead of a tooth extraction, a same-day crown can be used to save it by covering the entire tooth.
It could also be a good option if your root canal treatment resulted in a tooth infection. Your dentist will put dental fillings over the root canal to avoid affecting your neighbouring natural teeth before covering it with the crown.
