MiImplant® 5D Implant Planning Pathway

MiImplant® 5D is West Perth Dental Centre’s structured implant planning pathway: Diagnose, Design, Detail, Deliver and Defend.

Rather than focusing only on the implant itself, the MiImplant® pathway considers whether implant treatment may be suitable, how the final tooth should be planned, what stages may be required, how care is coordinated and how the implant restoration can be maintained over time.

Benefits of the MiImplant® 5D Pathway

Dental implant treatment involves more than placing an implant into the jaw. The position and design of the final tooth, bone and gum condition, bite forces, cleaning access, treatment stages and long-term maintenance may all influence the treatment plan. MiImplant® 5D brings these considerations together through one structured planning pathway.

Begins with suitability

Before recommending implant treatment, we assess your missing-tooth area, gums, bone foundation, neighbouring teeth, bite, medical history and available alternatives.

Plans the final tooth first

The final crown position, shape, bite, appearance and cleaning access are considered before the implant position is finalised.

Clarifies the treatment stages

The likely stages, inclusions, exclusions, fees, risks and expected timeline are discussed before treatment begins.

Includes long-term care

Implant treatment continues after the final crown is fitted through hygiene care, bite monitoring, maintenance and ongoing reviews.

What You Need to Know About MiImplant® 5D

MiImplant® 5D is not a particular implant brand or surgical technique. It is the name of our structured implant planning pathway. The five stages help patients understand suitability, final-tooth planning, treatment inclusions, coordinated delivery and ongoing implant maintenance.

Diagnose

The first stage assesses whether an implant may be appropriate. This can include the condition of the missing-tooth area, gums, available bone, neighbouring teeth, bite forces, grinding or clenching risk, medical history and alternative options. Imaging or specialist input may be recommended where clinically indicated.

Design

The final replacement tooth is planned before the implant position. The dentist considers crown position, shape, bite, appearance, gum emergence and cleaning access so that the implant can be planned around the intended restorative result.

Detail

Implant treatment can involve several separate components and appointments. The Detail stage explains the likely surgical and restorative stages, imaging, implant, abutment, crown, possible extraction or grafting, temporary-tooth options, reviews, risks, fees and expected timeline.

Defend

The final crown does not mark the end of implant care. Ongoing maintenance may include professional hygiene visits, peri-implant monitoring, cleaning guidance, radiographic review where indicated, bite checks and discussion of a protective splint for selected patients.

Situations Where a
MiImplant® Consultation May Be Considered

A Single Missing Tooth

An implant-supported crown may be one option for replacing an individual missing tooth without using neighbouring teeth for bridge support.

A Failed Crown or Bridge

If a tooth can no longer support a crown or bridge, implant treatment may be considered alongside other replacement options.

Bone or Gum Concerns

Some patients may require further assessment of bone volume, gum support or the possible need for grafting before implant treatment can be planned.

Multiple Missing Teeth

Depending on the number and position of missing teeth, implant-supported bridges, individual implants or removable options may be discussed.

A Front-Tooth Gap

Implants in visible areas may require additional consideration of the final crown position, gum appearance, neighbouring teeth and temporary-tooth options.

An Existing Implant Quote

If you have received an implant quote elsewhere, the MiImplant® pathway can help clarify the proposed stages, inclusions, exclusions and maintenance requirements.

Before Comparing Implant Prices,
Compare the Plan

Implant advertisements and treatment quotes may not include the same procedures, components or level of planning.

Before comparing fees, it is important to understand what has been included and what may be charged separately.

Your dentist will provide an itemised treatment plan based on your individual clinical needs. Not every patient requires every stage listed above.

Restorative-Led, Specialist-Supported Where Appropriate

The intended final tooth guides the implant plan.

For straightforward cases, treatment may be managed through the clinic’s usual implant workflow. More complex restorative, aesthetic or bite-related cases may involve specialist prosthodontic planning or another appropriate referral.

Specialist input is recommended according to the clinical situation and is not required for every patient.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ABOUT MiCrown®

MiImplant® 5D is West Perth Dental Centre’s structured implant planning pathway. The five stages are Diagnose, Design, Detail, Deliver and Defend.

It is not a particular implant device. It is a process for assessing suitability, planning the final tooth, explaining the treatment stages, coordinating care and maintaining the implant restoration.

No. Suitability may depend on gum health, available bone, medical history, bite forces, oral hygiene, smoking status, the condition of neighbouring teeth and other individual factors.

Alternative options may include a bridge, denture, orthodontic space closure or no immediate treatment.

The position and shape of the final crown influence where the implant may ideally be positioned. Planning the replacement tooth first helps the dentist consider appearance, bite, gum emergence and cleaning access before the surgical stage.

Not every implant patient requires bone grafting. It may be discussed where there is insufficient bone volume or where additional support may be needed.

The need for grafting can only be determined after clinical assessment and any required imaging.

Treatment time varies. It may depend on whether extraction, grafting, healing, temporary replacement or additional treatment is required.

The likely stages and estimated timeline will be discussed after assessment.

Inclusions vary according to the treatment plan. They may involve assessment, imaging, implant placement, an abutment, final crown, temporary-tooth options, grafting and review appointments.

You will receive an itemised treatment plan after assessment.

No implant treatment can be guaranteed to last for a particular period. Longevity may be influenced by gum and bone health, hygiene, smoking, bite forces, medical factors and ongoing maintenance.
Implants require daily cleaning and regular professional maintenance. The dental team may recommend specific brushes or flossing aids, hygiene appointments, bite reviews and radiographic monitoring where indicated.

Suitability, risks, alternatives, fees, treatment stages and expected outcomes are assessed during consultation. Individual outcomes and timelines vary according to clinical circumstances. Surgical and invasive procedures carry risks.
