Modern Dental Technology at West Perth Dental Centre
Technology That Helps Us Understand Your Smile
Dental technology plays an important role in the way we assess, plan, and provide treatment at West Perth Dental Centre. It helps us capture detailed information about your teeth, gums, bite, jaw, and surrounding structures, so your dentist can make more informed recommendations.
Our clinic uses a range of digital tools, including 3D imaging, intraoral scanners, guided implant planning technology, milling equipment, 3D printing, and digital smile planning software. These tools can support different stages of care, from your first scan through to the design and fabrication of selected dental restorations.
Dental Technology
at Our Clinic
Wide View CBCT Scanner
A CBCT scanner captures three-dimensional images of your teeth, jawbone, nerves, roots, and surrounding structures. This can be helpful when your dentist needs more detail than a standard dental X-ray can provide.
CBCT imaging may be used when planning dental implants, assessing wisdom teeth, reviewing complex root structures, or investigating certain dental concerns. Your dentist will only recommend this scan when it is clinically appropriate for your care.

OPG Digital X-Rays
An OPG digital X-ray provides a broad view of your teeth, jaws, jaw joints, and surrounding bone in a single image. It allows your dentist to assess areas that may not be visible during a standard dental examination.
This type of imaging can help with checking wisdom teeth, monitoring bone levels, reviewing tooth development, and planning treatment. Digital X-rays also allow images to be viewed quickly, helping your dentist explain what they can see during your appointment.

Invisalign®
Invisalign® uses a series of clear aligners to gradually move teeth into a planned position. At West Perth Dental Centre, digital scanning and planning tools may be used to help assess your bite, tooth alignment, and treatment options.
Not every case is suitable for clear aligner treatment, so your dentist will examine your teeth and discuss whether Invisalign® may be appropriate for your goals and oral health needs.

iTero Scanner
The iTero scanner creates a digital impression of your teeth and gums. In many cases, this can reduce the need for traditional impression materials and provides your dentist with a detailed digital model of your mouth.
These scans may be used for orthodontic planning, restorative treatment, aligner assessments, and monitoring changes over time. The digital model can also help you better understand what your dentist is seeing and discussing.

3Shape TRIOS Scanner
The 3Shape TRIOS scanner is an intraoral scanner used to capture detailed digital images inside your mouth. It helps create accurate digital records of your teeth, bite, and soft tissues.
This technology may support treatment planning for restorations, crowns, bridges, aligners, and other dental appliances. Your dentist can use the scan to plan treatment and communicate with the dental laboratory or in-house production equipment where needed.

CEREC
CEREC technology supports the digital design and creation of selected dental restorations, such as crowns, inlays, onlays, and veneers where suitable. It combines digital scanning, design software, and milling technology as part of the restorative workflow.
For some patients, CEREC may allow certain restorations to be designed and made in-house. Suitability depends on the condition of the tooth, the type of restoration needed, and your dentist’s clinical assessment.

Dentsply Sirona Primescan
Dentsply Sirona Primescan is a digital scanning system that captures detailed images of your teeth and gums. It helps create a precise digital impression without relying on traditional moulds in many situations.
These scans can support restorative treatment planning, crown and bridge design, implant planning, and other dental procedures. The digital workflow also allows your dentist to review and refine treatment details before moving to the next stage.

Dentsply Sirona Primemill
Dentsply Sirona Primemill is an in-house milling unit used to shape selected dental restorations from suitable materials. It works alongside digital scans and design software to help create restorations such as crowns or other ceramic restorations where appropriate.
Having milling technology available in the clinic can make parts of the restorative process more efficient. Your dentist will advise whether an in-house milled restoration is suitable for your tooth and treatment needs.

3D Guided Implant Technology
3D guided implant technology helps your dentist plan implant treatment using digital imaging and planning software. It allows the position, angle, and depth of an implant to be considered before treatment begins.
This planning process can be useful for assessing bone structure, nearby nerves, and the intended final tooth position. Dental implant treatment involves surgical procedures and may not be suitable for everyone, so a full consultation and assessment are required.

Guided Implant Surgery
Guided implant surgery uses a custom-made surgical guide to help transfer the digital implant plan into the clinical appointment. The guide is designed based on scans and planning information collected before treatment.
This approach may assist with accuracy and treatment planning in suitable cases. Your dentist will discuss the benefits, limitations, risks, and alternatives before recommending any implant procedure.

Minimally Invasive Procedures
Minimally invasive dentistry focuses on preserving healthy tooth structure where clinically possible. This may involve early diagnosis, careful treatment planning, digital imaging, and techniques that aim to treat the concern while conserving as much natural tooth as appropriate.
The right approach depends on your oral health, the condition being treated, and the available treatment options. Your dentist will explain what is suitable for your situation and why.

3D Printing Machines
3D printing can be used in dentistry to create accurate dental models, surgical guides, splints, and other dental appliances depending on the treatment being planned. It works with digital scans and design software to produce physical items from digital files.
At West Perth Dental Centre, 3D printing supports a more connected digital workflow between scanning, planning, and fabrication. Your dentist will let you know when 3D-printed items are part of your treatment process.

In-House Laboratory
Our in-house laboratory helps support the planning and production of selected dental restorations and appliances, allowing us to fabricate mouthguards, clear aligners, retainers, occlusal splints, and sleep appliances on the same day. By keeping the entire process within the clinic, our dental team can work closely across the scanning, design, review, and fabrication stages.
This seamless integration ensures exceptional communication and efficiency—especially when adjustments or checks are needed—though the exact timing and process will ultimately depend on the type of treatment and the complexity of your case.

Same-day Fabrications
Same-day fabrication may be available for selected dental restorations, depending on your needs and the condition of the tooth being treated. Digital scanning, design, and in-house milling technology can help create certain restorations within a shorter timeframe.
Not every restoration can or should be completed on the same day. Your dentist will assess your tooth, explain the options, and let you know what timeframe is appropriate for your treatment.

Digital Smile Design
Digital Smile Design uses photographs, scans, and planning software to help visualise possible changes to your smile before treatment begins. It can support discussions around treatments such as veneers, crowns, aligners, and other cosmetic or restorative options.
This process is used as a planning and communication tool. Final treatment recommendations, appearance, timing, and suitability depend on your oral health, bite, tooth structure, and individual goals.
