Same-day crowns are available where clinically suitable, and your dentist will first assess the tooth, bite and surrounding tissues before recommending the right approach for you.
What Is a Same-Day Digital Crown?
A dental crown is a custom restoration placed over a tooth to help restore its shape, function and appearance.
With a digital crown workflow, your tooth can be scanned rather than relying only on a traditional impression. Your dentist can then design the restoration digitally before it is milled from a ceramic block within the clinic.
For suitable single-tooth cases, these stages may be completed during the same appointment.
Not every tooth is appropriate for same-day treatment. Some situations may benefit from additional planning, temporary restorations, laboratory stages or specialist involvement.
How the Digital Crown Workflow Works
Scan
After your tooth has been assessed and prepared, a digital scanner captures detailed records of the tooth, neighbouring teeth and bite. This creates a digital model your dentist can review on screen.
Design
Your dentist uses digital design software to plan the shape and form of the crown. The design takes into account the prepared tooth, surrounding teeth, bite and the clinical requirements of your restoration.
Mill
Once the design is ready, the crown is milled from a selected ceramic block using our in-house digital milling technology.
Finish
The restoration is carefully finished and, depending on the material and workflow, may go through additional processing before it is ready to try in.
Fit
Your dentist checks the crown against your tooth and bite before it is fitted. Adjustments may be made where needed before treatment is completed.
Designed Around Your Individual Tooth
A detailed scan gives your dentist a clear digital view of the prepared tooth and surrounding bite. The restoration can then be designed, reviewed and created within the clinic where appropriate.
For suitable cases, completing these stages in-house may reduce the number of separate laboratory steps and allow treatment to be completed in one visit.
Same-day treatment is not suitable for every tooth. More complex cases may require additional planning, further appointments, external laboratory involvement or specialist input.
